It is known that the local Awami League and Chhatra League activists attacked and vandalized the house of Almas Mia in Ward No. 2 of Jagannathpur Upazila on January 4 (Thursday) due to the boycott of the recent national elections in Bangladesh and the Facebook messages against the current Awami League government.
Talking to some locals, it is known that Almas Mia’s son Md Hasan Mia who is currently living in UK. Attacks and vandalism took place due to anti-government messages posted on his Facebook account.
When Almas Mia’s father, Hasan Mia, was asked about the incident, he confirmed the truth of the incident and said that the local Awami League workers got angry at his son’s message published on his social media Facebook and came to his house and threatened him. He tried to pacify them, but at one stage of the argument, the Awami League workers vandalized his house and furniture. On hearing the screams, the people gathered around and the assailants chased them away.
When asked about Hasan Miya, he said, Hasan was involved in student politics since his college life. He was the co-secretary of the Jagannathpur Government College student body for the year 2016-17. From that time he came under the displeasure of Awami League and Chhatra League workers. He has been attacked and threatened several times while in the country. But not finding him in the country, he and his family are terrified of the attack at home.
When asked whether he had taken legal action regarding the attack, he said that when he went to lodge a complaint against the Awami League workers at the local police station, the police officer advised him to be careful, but Hassan hid the incident.
